ANCILLARY TASK DIGI-PAK

My idea for my digi-pak is to use the idea of star image to create my front cover. Using 'Ollie Trivett' as my main focus, my plan is to capture a silhouette of his head (as a singer) and then have down on the bottom left another image faded on (as his army character) with a light shining down from the top right to emphasise the ideas of isolation and loneliness that P.T.S.D can bring.

I've taken my inspiration from Richard Ashcroft who is also an alternative/ rock artist which links in to my own chosen genre. Not only this but his ideas reflect my own of using the outline of a head with other pictures represented within it!

His 'Human Conditions' and 'Check the Meaning' albums gave me the most inspiration for my own ancillary tasks. As you can see in the 'Check the Meaning' image he has only used one image to place inside the shape of the head. What I like about this is that he appears trapped inside his own mind, a theme that I am very keen to explore within my own work. From my research, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder can be very isolatedand the sufferer can often feel very trapped within their own thoughts as no one else can quite understand what they've been through.

“I feel like I’m straddling a timeline where the past is pulling me in one direction and the present another. I see flashes of images and noises burst through, fear comes out of nowhere… my heart races and my breathing is loud and I no longer know where I am.” - A quote taken from 'Mind, the mental health charity.'

This quote helps back up Eddie and I's ideas for our music video, which becomes a mixture of present day images, band shots and army flashbacks. Their minds are conflicted and they are constantly travelling between the two, which is why I've decided to mix images for my ancillary task.

I also particularly like his 'Buy it in Bottles' album cover as it once again contains the same kind of themes, yet I don't think that this one helps reflect my own work, it is nice to look at lots of different ways of displaying my idea!

Don McCullin's photography of the man 'Shaped By War' also stirred particular interest in me. This shows a man who is clearly traumatised by the effects of war and so this image will help inspire my own work to reflect the emotions that will be going on in this ex-soldiers head. Another idea suggested by my audience feedback was to also fade onto my digipak previously existing photos such as Don McCullin's to create diversity in my image and by adding a recognisable picture will help expand my audience.
